Codimag appoints Minh Duc Solutions as new agent in Vietnam to grow its business on a booming market
Codimag appoints Minh Duc Solutions as new agent in Vietnam to grow its business on a booming market
Bondoufle, France, 25 January 2021: The French manufacturer Codimag of printing presses for narrow web market announces the appointment Minh Duc Solutions as new agent in Vietnam.
Minh Duc Solutions (MDS) will promote Aniflo technology on a booming Vietnamese market, thus showing the increasing interest of this technology in the area.
Minh Duc Solutions (MDS) is leading distributor of products and service to the print sector of Vietnam. Our staff includes electronic engineers, mechanical engineers, printing engineers providing excellence in product quality, customer service and innovative solution to the printing industry.
“Over the last months, we have observed the Vietnamese market growing, but due to travel restrictions, it was complicated to go there and find the right partner.” said Benoit DEMOL, CEO of Codimag. “Minh Duc Solutions contacted us with a project, and several other came in the same time, so we have decided to move forward. Their knowledge of the market, their experience with other brands and their close relationship with printers convinced us that they were the right partner. For example, they have recently successfully installed a press from Edale, another brand they are working with, by themselves. This is the kind of local support we were searching, and the good feeling we have with the team made the rest, for a successful collaboration on the long term.”
At the heart of Codimag’s presses is Aniflo technology that, using waterless offset, offers the quality of offset, the productivity of flexo and the flexibility of digital.
By using an anilox inking system, problems usually associated with offset are eliminated: no ink/water balance issues; no ink key settings; no ghosting. Combined with fast-set up, low plate and ink costs, a fully digital workflow and print speeds of up to 85m/min, CODIMAG’ Aniflo presses are an attractive alternative to both traditional flexo and digital printing.
Le Phuc Tai, managing director of MDS: “We are very happy to collaborate with Codimag. The feedbacks from our customers are converging on a very strong demand on the label and packaging market. And thanks to Aniflo we can offer them the highest printing quality thanks to offset, a very high level of productivity comparable with flexo, and the versatility to print jobs both very short and very long. With Aniflo, we then add the flexibility the digital! Our market is booming in terms of volume, and customers are now looking for technologies to fulfil demanding end users (delivery time, high quality, shorter run). The Aniflo technology is answering the market trends and we are very optimistic to have a fruitful collaboration with the Codimag team.”
Versatile press options
Codimag produces three presses based on Aniflo technology. The VIVA 340 Evolution press is a stand-alone option suitable for printers with offline finishing capabilities. The VIVA 340 and VIVA 420 presses offer the same features and capabilities in 340mm and 420mm widths and can be configured with inline finishing options that can include hot-foil, flatbed foil, fluted foil, flexo varnishing, lamination, screen printing and die-cutting.
“This technology can address the challenges faced by the Vietnamese market. The versatility of our Aniflo printing unit is a strong asset for converters who have to print different jobs and many applications. And we know from experience on other markets that the first customers equipped with our technology will benefit from a strategical advantage on their local competitors!” Benoit Demol concluded.
About Aniflo Technology
Aniflo combines offset quality, flexo productivity and digital flexibility. It features an offset unit, with offset plates and a simple anilox delivery system that brings a uniform ink amount across the web. With the lowest operational costs, Aniflo is an economical choice for high-definition quality short, medium and long runs on any commonly used substrate – filmic or paper. Plate costs and imaging times are very short: all plates for the press can be prepared within about 15 minutes. Because it is intermittent, fewer consumables are needed, making Aniflo suited even for very short work. The high-definition capability and superior stability means Aniflo can print in extended gamut, like digital machine, without the inconvenience of high ink costs, click charges or planned obsolescence.”

This clearly shows that the partnership strategy engaged over the last decades by Codimag with brands such as Toray or Recyl are more than just simple supplier/customer relationships. We had very good feelings with the people we met, sharing the same long-term vision of business and company values, along with customer service. Their feedbacks are converging on a strong demand on the label and packaging market for offset: printing quality, productivity, versatility. And with Aniflo, we add the flexibility the digital!”

Waterless offset boosts green production
An article published in Labels & Labelling
https://www.labelsandlabeling.com/features/waterless-offset-boosts-green-production
Shenma Packing, owned by Changyu Group, is focused on all areas of wine bottle packaging – including the labels. Shenma actually has three subsidiaries, respectively producing oak barrels, paper products and a printing subsidiary.
The oak barrel subsidiary produces different sizes and specifications of oak barrels and wooden wine boxes; the paper products subsidiary mainly produces paper-based wine box cartons; and the printing subsidiary produces labels for a variety of products including wine boxes, handbags and gift boxes.
Shenma Packing’s label business is carried out by its printing subsidiary, which was started in 2011. Its key business is mainly all kinds of wine labels for the Changyu Group companies, with only a few labeling orders going to other social enterprise companies.
Investing in waterless offset
Currently, printing machinery in Shenma includes offset, flexo, screen printing and inkjet printing technologies, with offset accounting for the most of the company’s business.
The central piece of production equipment at Shenma is a Codimag waterless offset press installed in October 2017. ‘Since then, we have accumulated plenty of practical experience and quality and productivity have completely exceeded our expectations,’ says Lv Guoqing, Shenma’s general manager.
Why choose the Codimag waterless offset press? ‘Our existing presses were not able to meet our development needs at that time, so we made many market surveys and finally selected the Codimag waterless offset press mainly because it’s highly automated and the color could be simply adjusted,’ says Lv Guoqing. ‘With less need for human intervention, quality, consistency and stability are much easier to achieve.’
A major advantage is fast job changeover. Shenma mainly produces short runs of wine labels, and the increasing number of small orders means job changeover becomes more and more frequent. On its existing machinery, this meant an unacceptable increase in waste and production time lost. ‘The Codimag waterless offset press has very simple and easy job changeover, with no need for water and ink adjustment. This has significantly cut both downtime and raw material waste caused by job changeovers, thus improving the efficiency of the whole production line.’
Perhaps surprisingly, waterless offset printing is not so popular in the Chinese label printing market, so Shenma also needed to consider whether its printing performance would be accepted by customers or not. ‘At the beginning of the installation, clients knew little about this technology. There was also color difference in our initial production. After making adjustments and technical training by Codimag engineers, we solved this is a very short time. As our operators’ familiarity and experience accumulated, the production quality of this waterless offset press has been constantly improving and now it’s been accepted by a great many customers.’
Using Japanese Toray waterless offset plates, this machine is also equipped with multiple finishing units including hot/cold stamping, embossing and die-cutting. Today 60 percent of the converter’s label business is produced by this one machine, which has become the main production force at Shenma.
The whole Chinese label printing industry is facing the pressures of increasingly complying with the government’s increasingly severe environment protection policies. In the long term, sustainable printing methods will undoubtedly become a mainstream trend in label printing.
It is an important part of Shenma’s green development plan to invest in waterless offset technology. The biggest feature of waterless offset printing is that there is no need for fountain solution, which significantly reduces the discharge of VOCs.
Compared with water-based offset, waterless offset reduces VOC emissions by 60 to 80 percent, making it an environmentally friendly printing method. Other aspects of Shenma’s sustainable production strategy includes investing in nationally certified environment-friendly materials and inks.
Lv told L&L that even though there was a slight decline in Shenma’s business in 2019, its profit margins actually increased, which is thanks to the company principle of ‘keep improving productivity, and stick to green growth’.
French press manufacturers pool their efforts
The sudden arrival of a health crisis coupled with a strong and rapid contraction of the economy, leads us to review our perspectives and take the time to exchange, to get closer to each other, either personally and professionally.
As French manufacturers of industrial equipment for printers and converters, mainly adhesive labels, we have therefore decided to discuss together, to pool our efforts, to exchange our best practices and to support each other to go through this complicated step. For our businesses, and especially for our customers.
CODIMAG, G.I.C, M.G.I, SERAME and SMAG wish to continue to serve their customers in a difficult period, especially for those working with the food and pharmaceutical chains. And in order to help our customers to produce, they need our consumables, spare parts and new machines to be installed.
We do not have any miracle solution, but we may know a forwarding company, a machining expert, a partner, a contact or any other person that can be of service. Some of us are present in various countries, including countries that have may have passed the “peak”, and therefore have a look at the after and the restart of activity. Some of us have stored consumables that may miss to others. Some of us were also able to buy masks for all of us.
We collectively believe that we will take this step together. We are available for you, and wish you good luck and good health.
Benoît DEMOL – CODIMAG
What I think, what I believe and what I hope!
In these uncertain times, when information, sometimes contradictory, flood us with their peremptory truth, how to communicate or express an idea? Talk about it again or shut up and wait? How can we promote our products or even just trade when everyone is in the rush of emergency?
I have decided to take my e-pen and try to highlight what is important today, and necessary for tomorrow. My point is not to say what I know (because given the circumstances, I will paraphrase Socrates and his “I only know one thing is that I know nothing”). But to tell you what I think, what I believe and what I hope.
What I think
The situation is serious. Really serious. The peak of the epidemic is not reached yet but hospitals and care services are already saturated. The ever-increasing number of deaths every day are announced in a flow of figures, more terrifying one from each other. We all know someone infected by this virus, and we will certainly all know someone who will passed away in this epidemic.
The economy suddenly stops. As a manufacturer of printing machines, Codimag contributes in its own way with a daily opening, ensures after-sales service and support, but what about new machines that we cannot install today at our customers site, and what about the next orders with uncertain deadlines? When and how will Codimag come out of this crisis, despite the support policies for companies, historic in their amount and their scale?
When and how will my employees (I think of them days and nights), be able to resume normal activity when nothing is normal today, neither the health context, nor the supply chain, nor the business opportunities?
How can I protect my suppliers, as some of them are fragile, and whose business also depend on Codimag’s activity?
How can I count on my printing customers who, if they continue to work almost normally in this period of crisis, are also seeing a significant slowdown due to the collapse of the economy?
I think that in this uncertainty, our agility, both personally and in our management organization, will be the key. “Agile solidarity” is required with our loved ones, colleagues, suppliers, customers, agents and partners, involvement of shareholders, financial partners. Let’s be clever, smart and pragmatic! Sacrifices (in work, money, or time) will have to be assumed by all, while protecting the most fragile. Our way of operating will have to take this into account, but our work capacity will be increased tenfold and the delays caused by confinement will soon be made up. I take this opportunity to send a wink to my employees regarding the digitalization of Codimag processes. Our agility goes in particular through this digitalization of our process. It has already started, and this situation demonstrates how necessary, useful and effective it is.
What I believe
“The world will no longer be as it was before”. I have heard this sentence so many times after the 2008 crisis, where, while I was working in the bond financial markets, the world was falling apart. In fact, the world has recovered, the finance also…
However, since then, new strong issues have emerged over the last decade: technological challenges, environmental concern, terrorism and geopolitical instability.
This new crisis brings out more clearly a point that some wanted to hide: the need for proximity. And not only geographic proximity.
Dialogs between suppliers and customers, social proximity despite the confinement (did you discover the aperitifs in videoconference?). More generally, proximity to listening and the relationship between all stakeholders. We are seeing the emergence of new forms of local solidarity: the members of a French leaders association Croissance Plus (of which I am a happy member) who are offering their production tools or their assets for national or international solidarity, with the production or importation of masks for example. Helping hands between neighbours and colleagues are increasing, the communion with the health care staff every evening at 8 p.m. in France with these applauses are comforting us.
I believe that this solidarity of proximity, at the heart of the crisis, is on one hand a response to the emergency and on the other hand the expression of a need for brotherhood in the context of isolation, experienced by 3 billion people today worldwide. I do not know if this solidarity will survive the crisis, but I believe that today we need it and it we are enjoying it.
I believe that certain values will have a greater impact in the future. Industrial relocation, corporate values, virtue of the business model based on our activity as manufacturers of industrial equipment… When I introduce Codimag to new prospects, I often emphasize the values of our company: a family business, committed, with high tech products, and which brings to its customers exceptional support, with a virtuous business model where the customer has an efficient, effective, sustainable and long-lasting equipment. A different way of producing maybe, but an efficient, flexible and versatile way. The loyalty of our customers honours us and proves it. Let us make it understood by all those who have not yet tasted our technology!
What I hope
“The world will no longer be as before”. The motto comes back today as always in times of crisis. But this time, touched in our flesh and our physical integrity, beyond economic considerations, it is a fresh start to which our Humanity will have to answer. With conviction, determination, a lot of courage and everywhere, confidence. Our politicians, so often criticized, are not mistaken about the diagnosis, however. The crisis is serious, the emergency is there, but we must already imagine the “world of after”, and take opportunity of this salutary start for our common good.
I hope for a world of solidarity, relevant, even benevolent, far from the absurdities of unreasonable finance, from the world of excessive consumption.
I hope for a world respectful of its environment, because humanity will have perceived at all levels the fragility of our lives. A world where economic agents and stakeholders can act reasonably. Opportunities will arise, and Codimag will take them. But in this difficult “world of after”, the most important thing is that we do not lose the values that have been our strength for the last 42 years. You can count on me to defend them.
Let’s go through this crisis together, Let’s print the future together.

Toray and Codimag Collaboration Delivers Cost, Productivity Benefits to Label Converters
Waterless offset with the Codimag VIVA 420 press and Toray plates expands range of applications, competes favorably with flexography.
For more than two decades, waterless offset printing pioneer Toray and narrow web press manufacturer Codimag have sustained a deep partnership that has helped extend the environmental, quality and productivity advantages of waterless offset printing to a growing number of narrow web applications, including labels, cardboard, film, in-mould labeling, shrink sleeves, security printing and more. At Labelexpo Europe 2019, the two companies displayed the latest results of this collaboration, providing label printers/converters with proof that by migrating all or some of their production from flexography to waterless offset printing, they can substantially improve both quality and bottom line.

Combined with fast-set up, low plate and ink costs, a fully digital workflow and print speeds of up to 75m/min, Codimag’s Aniflo presses are an attractive alternative to traditional and digital printing.
“The company’s Aniflo system is an alternative to digital, offering fast-turnaround times, high print quality and cost-effective production,” said Eduard Segarra, commercial director, narrow web, Lapeyra y Taltavull. “This makes Aniflo ideal not only for wine labels, but also for food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and industrial label applications and run lengths that can be up to several thousand linear metres with no absolutely color switch.”
Lapeyra y Taltavull will be increasing the number of people serving narrow web customers as a result of the new partnership with Codimag.
“We will be providing installation engineering, training, fast response to technical queries, service and support, and consultancy in addition to sales and marketing activities,” Segarra said. “Codimag has a unique proposition that we believe will be very attractive to Iberian label printers.
Versatile press options
Codimag produces three presses based on Aniflo technology. The VIVA 340 Evolution press is a stand-alone option suitable for printers with offline finishing capabilities. The VIVA 340 and VIVA 420 presses offer the same features and capabilities in 340mm and 420mm widths and are configured with inline finishing options that can include hot-foil, flatbed foil, fluted foil, photopolymer embossing, flexo varnishing, lamination, screen printing and die-cutting.
“This technology can address the challenges faced by Spanish and Portuguese printers that include maintaining uptime, optimising output and maximising returns while printing short and medium runs with tight deadlines,” Segarra concluded. “The low cost of plates and economical ink combined with short-run capabilities make these exciting presses that can increase competitiveness without compromising print quality.”
Lapeyra y Taltavull will provide live working demonstrations of Codimag’s VIVA 340 Evolution press at its Graphispag 2019 booth (stand C30, Fira Barcelona, 26 – 29 March), giving visitors a real-time appreciation of the quality and agility of Aniflo technology.
About Aniflo Technology
Aniflo combines offset quality, flexo simplicity and digital flexibility. It features an offset unit, with offset plates and a simple anilox delivery system that brings a uniform ink amount across the web. With low operational costs, Aniflo is an economical choice for high-definition quality short and medium runs on any commonly used label substrate – filmic or paper. Plate costs and imaging times are very short: all plates for the press can be prepared within about 15 minutes. Because it is intermittent, fewer consumables are needed, making Aniflo suited for short and medium run work. The high definition capability and superior stability means Aniflo can print in extended gamut, offering over 90 percent of the PMS colours without any need for ink changes and consequential washing.
